Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

The Beverly Hills Fire Department (BHFD) strives to maintain the confidential nature of patient care records. As such, the BHFD adheres to federal law (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)), which includes privacy regulations, California state laws (Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, California Patient Access to Health Records Act and the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act), and local regulations (Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency Pre hospital Policy).

In consideration of the above laws and regulations, the BHFD is able to:

  • Manage health information
  • Participate in providing required data elements to the following databases:
  • Provide patients with Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP)
  • Provide patients with their Protected Health Information (PHI)
